ELNCA Committees — East Lake Farmer's Market
Committee Chair: Doug Williams
Plans for 2010
(Posted on Mar 16, 2010)
A huge THANK YOU to all of our friends and to the East Lake Neighbors Community Association for your overwhelming support for the East Lake Farmers Market. Over 100 of you came to shop each week, helping us to redefine “Second & Hosea.” We plan to continue to bring positive activity and healthy offerings to this former high-crime corner.
NEW for 2010:
• The newly-named ELF Market is now a non-profit corporation.
• With support from local families, businesses and foundations, we look forward to hiring a market manager and accountant, increasing marketing and advertising, and meeting operational expenses. Our goal is to raise $10,000 of our budget by April 15th.
• We also plan to purchase EBT equipment that will allow us to accept food stamps this year, making fresh, healthy produce available for all.
• Community fund raisers, live music, bike maintenance workshops and market demonstrations are being planned throughout the season.
• We are developing best practices and policies that will be shared with other markets to strengthen the local food network. We will be seeking federal, state and local grants to continue to grow and offer more healthy options to our community. Booth fees will remain low to support our farmers and maximize vendor participation.
We are considering moving the market from Saturday to Sunday as that may get us more vendors. More info to come. We are very excited about the continuation and expansion of the ELF Market, and we hope that you will collaborate with us.
